Miniatures of Juan Manuel Fangio and a flying Tommi Makinen

U.S.A. 2006

AFTER A MAJOR TURN 1 INCIDENT ON LAP 1, WHICH TOOK OUT 8 CARS, ANOTHER MINOR INCIDENT AT THE SAME CORNER ON LAP 6, WHICH TOOK OUT A FURTHER 2 CARS, AND 3 SUBSEQUENT RETIREMENTS THERE WERE HARDLY ANY MORE FINISHERS THIS YEAR THAN IN 2005 WHEN MICHELIN HAD THEIR TYRE PROBLEMS AND ALL THE MICHELIN-SHOD CARS WERE WITHDRAWN LEAVING ONLY 6 CARS TO ACTUALLY 'RACE'. IT WAS THE SAME RESULT AS 2005 IN THAT FERRARI FINISHED 1 & 2 BUT AT LEAST THIS TIME IT WAS A GENUINE RACE, ALTHOUGH BOTH McLARENS WENT OUT ON LAP 1.
