Miniatures of Juan Manuel Fangio and a flying Tommi Makinen

Jerez 2008

Jorge Lorenzo followed up his brilliant pole position in his first MotoGP race (Qatar) last time out by doing it again here in his own country just 3 weeks later.

Dani Pedrosa rocketed off the line as usual but he was caught by Jorge on Lap 2. Clearly, these two Spaniards were determined to outshine each other in their home race. However, by the end of Lap 2, Dani re-took the lead and led until the end of the race.

Disaster struck Casey Stoner early on in the fact that he went off the track and through the gravel on Lap 2 and effectively started at the back of the field. He gradually worked his way up the order but then did it again - at the same corner! He eventually finished 11th.

Valentino had qualified 5th and rode well on the Bridgestone tyres that he has changed to this season and finished 2nd with Jorge hot on his heels in 3rd.
